The United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare 11 October as the International Day of the Girl Child, (on December 19th,2011) to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.We all must recognise the importance of investing in and empowering girls during adolescence. We must prevent and eliminate all forms of violence against girls and women. Women International League for Peace and Freedom, (WILPFGH) calls on all parents, guardians, teachers and governments to take concrete action to end all forms of violence against girls in every part of the world. We must move beyond awareness-raising to investments in and support for the girl child that will shape the present and the future. Wilpfgh is not just a voice, we take concrete action to ensure that education is for all and that child marriage, all forms of violence against the girl child is eliminated. We all must support and ensure that girls are protected from the scourge of violence. We can promote the empowerment of the girl child by:
 Ensuring that a girl child is educated- education is the most sustainable way to empower the girl child. The role of education in helping girls find their voice cannot be over emphasised.
 Investing in girls to provide them with skills, self-confidence and assurance, and opportunities in life- by providing technical and vocational education and training. By providing health, social and economic support systems;
 Making infrastructure, technology and other relevant services available to girls to meet their requirements for safety, mobility and connectivity;
 Making possible and easy girls engagement in public, economic and political life;
 Consistently advocating against violence against girls and women.
 Reinforcing and supporting data, measurement and the evidence base with regards to the empowerment of and violence against girls. WILPF HAS A COMMITMENT TO THE GIRL CHILD AND WOMEN.
